European Maritime Day

Registrations to European Maritime Day 2023 are now open! Established in 2008, European Maritime Day (EMD) is the annual European Union (EU) meeting point on maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth. EMD targets professionals from businesses, governments, public institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and academia as well as everyone interested in the sea. This year, it will take place as a physical event in Brest (France) on 24-25 May. EMD 2023 is organised by the European Commission, the Metropole of Brest, the Secretariat General for the Sea, the Region of Brittany and the department of Finistère. Live streaming will be available for the Opening Session and the European Commission high level panel session on a new approach to a sustainable blue economy.

Participants in the EMD conference will be able to participate in

  • High level sessions on a new approach to a sustainable blue economy, maritime security and innovation in the blue economy as well as a special session on fisheries;
  • A series of workshop on a diversity of maritime topics including workshops on ocean literacy (‘Reaching sustainable ocean: role of ocean literacy in linking science with blue sectors, education and society’) and maritime data (‘Benefiting from Maritime Data to Drive Marine Innovation’).
  • Pitch stages sessions where interlocutors will present ongoing projects in relation to the maritime sector and to the transition towards a sustainable blue economy;
  • A parallel Round Table - Sea’Ties - discussing challenges that port cities are confronted with; and
  • An exhibition bringing together stakeholders from different sectors across Europe.
