EMODnet Physics has been busy attending external events in Q4 of 2023. At Festival della Scienza - an annual event about science taking place in Genoa (Italy) since 2003 which involves about 200 thousand people every year - there were two interesting contributions.  The talk “OceanBigData. The footprint of humanity on the Ocean” concerned EMODnet Physics’ activity in terms of data collection and monitoring and why it is important to understand how environmental processes and climate change work. Meanwhile, at the OGS’ Laboratory Quando la scienza dà i numeri - L’impatto dei dati scientifici, giusti e sbagliati EMODnet’s activities were illustrated to the audience and it was explained how data provides more knowledge. Moreover, the experts involved showed and compared past and current instruments and technologies that monitor sea’s health.

“Seas of Data: EMODnet's commitment” was the keynote in which the EMODnet Physics’ work in marine data collection was illustrated. The speech was held during “Can we escape the tide of plastic marine litter pollution?” the first cluster meeting organised by REMEDIES, the European programme that creates innovative solutions to monitor and prevent the spread of microplastic litter in the sea.

Finally, a lecture was given for the Training Programme on Regional Ocean Governance for the Mediterranean, Black, Baltic & Caspian Seas at the International Ocean Institute of the University of Malta. In this occasion, the utility of the EMODnet system and COPERNICUS products for marine environment managers and policy makers was emphasised. It was also showcased how EMODnet’s portal works, how to access data and the use of Erddap in EMODnet Physics.

Different events and audiences, but same goal: highlighting the importance of EMODnet data infrastructure and sharing.
