In July 2018, 72 talented students have been working on 17 impactful open source projects at the Open Summer of Code 2018. The EMODnet Student team, coached by VLIZ and composed of Catherine Lesuisse, Ismail Abdoulahi, Marie Mwinkeu and Eva Baete, were challenged to build a useful application from the vast array of open marine data available in EMODnet.

Their web application, named Open Sea Lab, enables scientists, government actors, businesses and students to explore marine data via a clear map interface. Users can visualise all the data on one map which makes it easier to compare and analyse the data.
