EMODnet was pleased to exhibit at the ICES Annual Science Conference 2023 which took place in Bilbao, Spain on 11-15 September 2023. ICES is a key stakeholder to EMODnet, with ICES being a partner and data provider to multiple EMODnet thematics, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Data Ingestion. EMODnet experts are also members of a number of ICES Working Groups. The event also saw the launch of the OSPAR Quality Status Report 2023, to which EMODnet data/data products contributed.

ICES is an important data provider to EMODnet, including harvesting ICES marine conservation and governance layers such as Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) via cascaded web services. At the ICES Annual Science Conference (ASC) 2023, the EMODnet Secretariat hosted an exhibition booth, with the > 700 registered participants, including NOAA and other international stakeholders, taking up dialogue with EMODnet to discuss their use of EMODnet services, data sharing opportunities and wider collaborations.

ICES is much broader than fisheries, with many marine environmental human activities and socio-economic data, and in the coming years, EMODnet looks to further strengthen its partnership with ICES to collectively provide European and International marine data users with the most comprehensive services yet! Other highlights from ICES ASC included the presentation of OSPAR's latest Quality Status Report (QSR) 2023, to which EMODnet contributed.  The EMODnet Secretariat would like to thank ICES for the ongoing collaboration and for the excellent Conference, warmly hosted by Bilbao, Spain!
