Outputs

The outcomes of the sea basin checkpoints are:

  • The clarification of the observation landscape for all compartments of the marine environment Air, Ice, Fresh Water, Marine Water, Riverbed/Seabed, Biota/Biology and Human activities, for the existing major programs, at European, National, and International level, and multiple usages.

  • The evaluation of the adequacy of marine data, i.e., how well the present data collection, monitoring, and surveying programmes meet the needs of the users, through the prism of marine and maritime applications of paramount importance for the European Marine Environment Strategy:

- Energy and food security (renewable energy, fisheries & aquaculture management);

- Marine environmental variability and change (climate change, eutrophication, river inputs, bathymetry, alien species);

- Emergency management (oil spills, fishery impacts, coastal impacts);

- Preservation of natural resources and biodiversity (connectivity of Marine Protected Areas).

  • The identification of gaps in data monitoring, in data assembly, in “accessibility” and “appropriateness” of data sources, and priority needs for optimisation – in terms of availability, operational reliability, efficiency, time consistency, space consistency, etc.-, as well as observational priorities required in the future to meet the challenges as well as environmental and climate changes (project partner’ advices).

  • In the Report section, all the reports of Black Checkpoint can be accessed and downloaded.

First Panel Report

The aim of the Panel meeting was to evaluate the First Black Sea Checkpoint Data Adequacy Report (DAR).
The Panel for the Black Sea checkpoint is composed of five scientific experts and two compulsory members chosen by the consortium to represent the Black Sea Commission and offshore energy industry.

Black Sea – First Data Adequacy Report

This document illustrates the first Data Adequacy Report (DAR) of the EMODnet Black Sea Checkpoint project. The aim of the DAR was to assess the basin scale monitoring systems on the basis of input data sets for 11 prescribed Challenges. Nothing equivalent exists in the world. In fact, a completely new methodology has been developed based on ISO10 standards, INSPIRE principles and a set of quality indicators.

Literature survey for Black Sea checkpoint
The Black Sea Literature Survey summarizes the first main attempt to classify the input data sets on the Black Sea by selecting a number of applications in order to determine how easy it is to access and use the data needed for these applications and their fitness for purpose.
