Map of the week – Location of wind farms

The 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24 for short) is taking place until 14 December 2018, in Katowice (Poland).

Leaders from all over the world and a wide range of stakeholder representatives are attending this UN Climate Conference to discuss the rules of the implementation of the Paris Agreement and demonstrate global commitment in the fight against climate change.

During COP24, the Polish Presidency will focus its attention on key topics such as technology and climate-friendly modern solutions for clean air[1].

Sustainable marine energy can play a key role in climate change mitigation and clean air. In this context, our Map of the week displays the location and the status of offshore wind farms in European seas, essential infrastructures for the production of clean electricity using wind, a renewable source of energy.

Europe is a leader in this field, with 90% of the world’s sea-based marine wind turbines currently located in European Seas[2]. Click on each icon in the map to identify offshore wind farms that are operational, planned and even those under construction.
